LEISURE

Marienplatz, Munich’s central square, the Cathedral Church of Our Lady, Viktualienmarkt where there is a daily food market, the Olympic park, the television tower, the Allianz Arena football stadium and the city’s many other sights attract millions of tourists to Munich every year. However, tourist attractions are not the only things Bavaria’s most cosmopolitan city has to offer. With its green parks, flower gardens, numerous museums and public art galleries, palaces, churches and monasteries, you will never be bored in Munich, with or without the Oktoberfest.

You can also indulge in some serious retail therapy in the stores and boutiques of central Munich. Alternatively, head to one of Munich’s many shopping centres with their huge variety of stores under one massive roof: Einkaufscenter Neuperlach in the east, Olympia Einkaufszentrum OEZ in the north and  Riem Arkaden right next to the Munich trade fair centre.

If you are interested in sport, Munich also has plenty to offer: It not only boasts football clubs such as FC Bayern and TSV 1860 München and the EHC München ice hockey team but also lots of opportunities to play golf in spectacular surroundings. What about playing a round of golf with an Alpine panorama in the background? Keen golfers can choose from as many as 30 different 18-hole courses, all in beautiful countryside. Hachinger Hof guests enjoy a discount on green fees at Golfclubs Mangfalltal. What’s more,  skiers who are keen to hit the slopes can be putting on their skis in less than an hour.

Thrill seekers can test their nerves at a very special attraction in close-by Taufkirchen, a 10-minute drive from Oberhaching. At the Jochen Schweizer Arena you can try out indoor surfing and body flying or brave the awesome high ropes courses and flying fox zip lines. Activities can also be organised for corporate groups. The PHÖNIXBAD swimming pool and leisure centre in Ottobrunn with its various saunas, a 25 metre swimming pool and children’s area with slides is just as easy to get to. The water slides of Therme Erding are also not far away, just 45 minutes by car.

Munich’s Oktoberfest and the Christkindlmarkt, or Christmas market, are famous all over the world. However, there’s so much more to do in this cosmopolitan city that is said to have the heart of a village. The nightlife is lively and varied with numerous theatres, concerts and cinemas. For people looking for something simple, an evening stroll through Schwabing is a treat not to be missed.

There are a vast number of things to do and see in the surrounding area. If you’ve got a bit more time, it is well worth making the trip out to the lakes of Tegernsee or Starnberger See, where you can also visit the Buchheim Museum, the open-air museum in Glentleiten or the house of Gabrielle Münter in Murnau, where Wassily Kandinsky spent his summers between 1909 and1914.
Good things to do with children include Munich’s zoo, Tierpark Hellabrunn, the Bavaria Film Studios, the Fairy Tale Forest in Wolfratshausen and the animal park in Poing and Blindham. If you’re looking for an adrenaline buzz, the Skyline Park, the Bayern-Park or LEGOLAND are all places you might want to visit.

More active guests might want to explore in and around Munich by bike. From right outside the hotel you can join a cycle route that follows the path of Munich’s water supply from the Alps to the city centre. The RadlRing is a 170km cycle path that encircles Munich. You can choose to cycle its entire length or do day trips along its most attractive sections. Alternatively, you can explore spectacular cycle routes along the Isar or Mangfall rivers to take in the Alpine panoramas of the Bavarian Oberland region. If ever our own bikes have all been hired out, the BIKEBRINGER will deliver extra bikes to the hotel.

For winter sports enthusiasts, the ski slopes of Upper Bavaria are within easy reach of the hotel. You can hop on the Bayerischen Oberlandbahn train, or if you prefer, go by car. Within in an hour you’ll be in the Lenggries ski resort "Am Brauneck". With their vast ski areas, the Austrian ski resorts have even more to offer.
